This one was first made from trial and error, and needless to say it was kind of tough just winging it. A while back i read an article on buzz feed about all the glorious uses for a waffle iron, and yes there are so many uses for a waffle iron. Its basically the duct tape of cooking, it can be used for anything. You name it, seriously, and it can be cooked. But for this segment we will use it for a savory piece of heaven which we will call the cheese waffle.(anti-climatic name, i know) lets start with the ingredients(and these can be changed slightly if you want to add things to it for example; bacon, ham, corn, or meat slabs.
INGREDIENTS
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon paprika, or a pinch of cayenne pepper
1/2 pound low-moisture mozzarella, sliced about 1/2 inch thick (see note above)
2 large eggs, beaten
1/2 cup bread crumbs
Nonstick cooking spray
I didn’t take a picture of mine, and if you are wondering how my numbers add up to whats in the picture, you are right, it doesn’t add up at all, but this looks much prettier on a blog.
anyway after you get everything all put together the rest is really quite simple. My mistake the first time doing this was that i didn’t add flour to it, an things got a little to cheesy for my waffle iron to handle. still delicious, just took a turn down slop city in the process.
DIRECTIONS
1.
Preheat waffle iron. (Set it to medium if it has temperature controls.)
2.
On a plate, mix flour with paprika or cayenne. Place eggs in a second plate or bowl and bread crumbs in a third. Working one slice at a time, coat cheese in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs.
3.
Spray both sides of waffle iron with nonstick spray, place as many cheese slices as will fit in waffle iron, and close lid. Cook until bread crumbs turn golden brown, about 1 minute. Repeat with any remaining cheese.
4.
Serve hot on its own or with salsa for dipping.
seriously, thats all…super simple, and oh em gee, delicious. You’re welcome.
